Tease.

She peeked out from behind a mish-mash
of randomly arranged pictures,
Her voice echoed like a whiplash,
like a mother’s sharp-tongued strictures.
And yet suddenly, it was barely a whisper,
a whisper of forgotten promises…

She was hauntingly beautiful,
flowing around, smoke-like.
To his heat-filled gaze, like a crucible,
she was unyielding, precarious as a spike.
She gazed at him with wonder
and with a hint of a smirk, she was gone.

He looked around him, dazed
She had gone, just disappeared…poof!
Surging through him like a blaze,
his disappointment made him feel aloof.
He looked unseeingly around and his
unfocused eyes saw a glimpse…of her?

There she was, hidden in the shadows,
Clear as day, but alas, only fleetingly!
For she was there, sharp as arrows,
and a second later, not even seemingly.
She was teasing him…sometimes peeking,
sometimes disappearing, forever out of reach.

Water stayed longer in his hands than her.
She was a devil, tantalizingly calling out,
Then, fading away in a colorful blur…
What was she? Reality or a mere thought?
Or was she a memory, a memory of yonder,
a memory of change, gradually fading away…
